Short answer

Google explicitly prohibits posting content on a competitor's business to undermine that business or product's reputation. A documented competitor relationship can therefore create a strong removal basis.

This is a common real-world review problem. The goal is to separate what feels suspicious from what can actually be supported under Google's published policies.

Important: A negative review is not removable simply because a business believes it is unfair. Google removes content when it violates applicable policy, and Google makes the final decision.

Verify the competitor connection

Use reliable public or internal evidence such as company websites, ownership information, professional profiles, emails, or other records connecting the reviewer to the competing business.

Assess the reviewer's claimed experience

A competitor could theoretically also be a genuine customer. Determine whether the review describes a real transaction or appears primarily intended to damage a competing business.

Document intent through behavior when possible

Timing around a competitive dispute, repeated attacks, coordinated reviews, or similar posts targeting competitors can strengthen the context.

Do not retaliate

Never ask your employees or supporters to leave negative reviews on the competitor's profile. That could create the same policy issue for your business.
